The Boldest Brontë

Both novels by Anne Brontë, the boldest of the Brontë sisters, in one collection.

Agnes Grey follows a young governess working for wealthy families who treat her with indifference, and was drawn from Anne's own experience. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall tells of a mysterious young widow who moves into a crumbling house with her son, and of the marriage she has fled. Its frank portrait of a woman leaving her husband shocked readers in 1848.

Long overshadowed by Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, Anne's novels are now celebrated as some of the most honest and modern of the Victorian age.
