    Lewis, Harry Sinclair

    Biography

    Novelist and the first American to receive the Nobel Prize for literature in 1930. Lewis is famous for his realistic and natural style of writing. He employs native language to satirize the complacent life style of the Americans.
    Lewis became popular after the publication of his novel, In Main Street in 1920. His other significant writings include Babbitt (1922), Arrowsmith (1925), Elme Gantry (1927), and Dodsworth (1929). His later works include It Can't Happen Here (1935), Kingsblood Royal (1947), and World So Wide (1951). Lewis collaborated with other authors in writings several plays including Jayhawker (1934), and the dramatized version of It Can't Happen Here (1936).
