Mackenzie, Henry

Henry Mackenzie (1745 - 1831), famous as the Addison of the North, was a Scottish novelist, poet, and essayist. He was born and educated in Edinburgh. Mackenzie acquired legal education abroad and, after working with Inglis, he succeeded him as an attorney to the crown. After several attempts, Mackenzie was forced to have his work The Man of Feelings published anonymously; it instantly became a success, bringing wide - spread fame to the author. Mackenzie also wrote anonymous pieces against the French Revolution. ;
