Galt, John

John Galt (1779 - 1839) was a Scottish novelist born in Irvine, Ayrshire, the son of a naval captain. Professionally, hewas Secretary of the Royal Caledonian Asylum in London from 1815 and then Secretary of the Canada Company from 1824. He wrote The Life and Studies of Benjamin West (1816) and Autobiography (1833). His best known novels include Voyages and Travels (1812) and The Member (1832). ;
